Grand Forks County created a charity called Don't Soil the Soil to help fight against soil erosion. Nelson's Pumpkin Patch is hosting an apple picking event this Saturday, September 28th, to earn money to stop the abundance of erosion. Soil erosion occurs when water or high winds disrupt the healthy topsoil that allows plants to grow. The absence of this topsoil takes away the nutrients and the structure that plants need to grow causing them to die or fall over.
To combat this, Grand Forks County is holding a charity event to help fund shelterbelts to fight against this issue. The charity event will feature things such as apple picking, pumpkin picking, corn blasters, a haunted house, hayrides, and much more. It will cost $10 to get in with additional fees for apples and pumpkins.
"Soil erosion is one of the top leading causes of plant and habitat destruction. This causes an impact not only on our economic situation but also on our environment," states owner and operator of Nelson's Pumpkin Patch, Christian Nelson. All proceeds will help benefit the soil erosion in Grand Forks County.

#1 Billboard Artist, Taylor Swift, Coming to Grand Forks
Hello! Welcome back to Becca's Thoughts! Today we will be talking about Taylor Swift's achievement of becoming the number one pop artist on Billboard's list, as well as her tour coming to the Grand Forks area.
T-Swizzle is known for being one of America's top pop singers, and Billboard agrees! She has been on the Billboard list for 266 weeks straight. Over five years of Queen Taylor? We love that. The release of her seventh album, Lover, is a huge reason why she skyrocketed to the top. The album was released on August 23rd, 2019, and features 18 songs. There's no denying this album has been long-awaited as Taylor hasn't released an album since 2017. A few of my favorite songs include "Me!," "Lover," and "I Forgot That You Existed."
But that's not the most exciting thing. She just announced that she would be making her way to Grand Forks, North Dakota to play a special concert for the men and women of the Air Force on the Grand Forks Air Force base. The concert will take place on October 1st, 2019, at the Parade field on base. Luckily for us, everyone is welcome to the concert with a valid drivers license. Did I mention that tickets will only cost $20 and all proceeds will go towards supporting the Grand Forks Air Force base? Taylor is not alone in supporting the troops, Lizzo and Selena Gomez will also be playing on base before Taylor's performance.
I think that this is a great way to honor the men and women that serve in the military. Grand Forks often gets the shorter end of the stick when it comes to events like this. Most performers don't want to travel to one of the coldest cities in the United States, so we are glad that Taylor is willing to brave the chilly North Dakota weather. I think I can speak for all of Grand Forks when I say that this concert will be a light during the dark winter we are about to have.
